Last Monday was my regular day off and it was a perfect day to bake! I spent the morning cleaning up the rest of the house and preparing for making some tasty treats! We had a staff meeting on Tuesday so that is always a good excuse for me to whip up something fun. I also planned to take some pumpkin donuts to CG Tuesday night.
Here is a photo of all the ingredients I would be needing:
Doesn't look like much...and really, the ingredients involved were rather simple. I was going to make some cinnamon rolls with caramel icing, a quick apple crisp and the pumpkin donuts.
The donuts were the most intimidating...and actually were the easiest to make. To bad I was on the phone while mixing the ingredients and forgot two of the key flavor makers so they tasted awful! Ah well, I'm going to give them another go for CG this week. :)
This is one of my favorite gadgets that I rarely have a chance to use. This fall I'm trying to find as many recipes that would require it's use as possible!
These are the fun skins of the apples after being peeled, cored and sliced--I think they're fabulous!
Here are the finished crisp and cinnamon rolls. The rolls look pretty wrecktastic, but they tasted yummy!
Actually, after another look, the photo of the crisp just looks rather boring!
If I do the crisp again I will put a little of the crumble between layers of apple for a little more texture. Always something to improve!
I have no idea why the photo of the rolls is this direction...and I can't seem to fix it!
It was a fun day in the kitchen. I really wish I could afford one of those fancy gel mats to aid in the salvation of my tootsies! Standing for a couple hours on the ceramic tile produces some serious aches! All Fine Kitchen Supply Fund Donations can be forwarded to ocm :)
My next adventure...I want to do some traditional butter cookies. I'm hoping they're yummy and not too difficult. I'd then like to venture into the world of truffles...hoping that in the end I can do some of both for some tasty and lovely Christmas gifts!
We'll see!

Looks good! I love my apple tool too, but also rarely use it! I may have to remedy that . . .
How wonderful. You have really turned into a good cook. You can come cook for me anytime you choose.
Bers: I highly recommend the quick apple crisp...it's yummers. I also think the peeler-corer-slicer would be great to do a nice tart!
A.L.: I'd love to come and cook for you...I'll be there as soon as I I can find a flight for less than $500 (that bites-don'tcha think)
Next up...donuts, perhaps with some of that lovely ganache that I saw in a Profiterole recipe recently...or just a nice chocolate icing--we'll see!
: )
Ganache yummo - sorry about the donuts since it was ma who you were talking with while mixing them up - maybe better next time - did you get the jello recipe I sent you :) ma
:) Yeast dough is simply over my talent limit so I would not even attempt. Thankfully, there is a small store in our building and for my morning coffee I just go downstairs to bring up fresh danish. :)
ma: received jello-recipe. I knew I was right about the strawberry mix! Didn't get to donuts today...hopefully tomorrow.
Isadora: Mmmm...miss the pastries in Hungary! ...and you have them so close!!!!
