Two Thunbs Up

Yesterday morning I went to see Inkheart.

I enjoyed it quite a lot. The story drew me in, the effects were great, the setting for the film was perfect and it was a wonderful escape from the things that weigh on the mind here in the 'real world'.

Since it came out, I've been trying to make time to see it. I think it all worked out that Saturday was the day for a reason. You see, this movie stars Brendan Fraser. Though a decent actor, he doesn't really stand out to me at all. He does however for my sis Chrissy. How does this tie in, you may ask. Well, it's simple. Yesterday was Chrissy's birthday. She was at Disneyland...I was at the movies and I did think of her often :)

The movie is adapted from the book of the same name. I have not yet read it. Upon the advice of my dear friend E who is (I feel really old now) DRIVING, I saw the movie first.

Her exact quote was: "I've read Inkheart, and I really liked it.You should see it first. Then when you read it, you won't be disappointed when a part you liked in the book isn't in the movie, or if they mess something up. That's how I've been with the Harry Potter movies. I actually hurts me to watch them now..."

I love that she is a book lover...and that she's on Facebook -when she pops up, it makes my afternoons a little (o.k.--a lot) brighter :)

Have I mentioned that I :heart: $5 Flicks??? I guess officially they're called A.M.Cinema. Get it...AMC---A.M.Cinema. They're brilliant! Anyway, I love that they have this special...I get to see a movie for less than it costs to eat out and I still get points on my MovieWatcher card .

Things I'm Grateful For #3

Another busy week has passed. Tomorrow begins the last week of January, the end of the first month of 2009. Is it just me, or does time seem to just whirl by?

One thing I've really been trying to do in recent years (and I've failed) is to be on top of family birthdays. That said, all of you, my lovely family born between 30 December and now (you know who you are, or your wife/mother is telling you I wrote this): I apologise. I will try to be a little belated. I do love you all!

This week I didn't do much, other than work. I don't think I took any photographs until yesterday. I did, however, think this week about how wonderful it has been to be able to go to the movies recently. Going to see films is one of my favorite things to do. I love the theatres, the big screens and sound, the treats and the whole experience of going to the movies.

The reason it has been possible for me to attend more frequently of late is due to the fact I've received movie money on various occasions.

I love movie money!

Thanks to all who have thought to give such a wonderful treat. It has been thoroughly enjoyed!!

p.s. When I went last to the theatre the fellow who sold me my ticket saw my movie watcher total. He was shocked, and said in a rather questioning voice: 346 points!??! I smiled a bit sheepishly, but responded I've been a member for a long time. AMC is rather new up here. I have to say when they started to take over many of the theatres...I was THRILLED! Next to movie money, free stuff from MovieWatcher is the BEST!

Two Thumbs Up

This was good. Very good.

I am not a big Tom Cruise fan and was disappointed when I saw he was the main guy in this one...yet it all worked out. The story was not one I'd heard in school...only in passing, reading about the war.

Though I know my people were stateside by the time this occurred...it still feels like 'my' history.

Check it out.





I always believe the book is better than the movie...and this is no exception. It does, however, add a different dimension to the story. I liked it a lot.

I like the music as well...and, much like a Harry Potter movie, am driven to re-read the book after seeing this interpretation.

Seriously, I've never been one for a romance book...and this is definitely not a Harlequin or anything...but I may just have to pick up a Jane Austen-just to see.


If you haven't read it--indulge yourself. The movie is good too.

Hmmm....I've been thinking of the best way to describe my reaction to the new Indiana Jones movie. I think I've figured it out:

1. Childhood dream job: archaeologist
2. First movie crush: Han Solo (Mr. Ford, himself)
3. One of my most favorite television series: X-files

Oh, yes. I thought this movie was BRILLIANT! I laughed out loud, sat on the edge of my seat and enjoyed every frivolous, swashbuckling minute!
