The City Whispers

I think at some point I have likely mentioned that I have to commute to work.  I have never had to commute to anywhere prior to moving here, the Puget Sound.  I think it is loathsome! Every day up and down I-405 for (not so many) miles and what can be up to a few hours at a time.  UGH!

This guy has made the commuting somewhat better.  I have a cozy seat, a CD player, even a radio.  I didn't expect to have to find a 'new to me' car last year, but it happened.  I am truly blessed with this fine thing!

Anyway…back to my post.

Lately commuting has become TORTURE!!!  It is roughly 20 miles from my office to my home or the downtown building to my home and my commutes have been running roughly two hours at average.  Yes, 'shoot me now' has crossed my mind. Though, I also wonder why I don't buy coffee and donuts for the morning since I have plenty of time sitting in the car (not moving) I could enjoy them!

Well, today I decided from downtown I would take I-5 up around the other side of the water and over quite simply because I just couldn't bear another day of the 405, it just-could-not-happen!  Doing this required me to get onto the 5 in the city.  I have lived here longer than anywhere else yet I do not "know" this place.  It is not a place I can "feel my way around" easily.  However, on this day, I just stepped out knowing it would be better-oh so much better-than the blast 405.

Much surprised I was.  I am not a city girl.  I do not long for city things.  Yet as I drove up the street past the many shops I am familiar with I saw things set out for sale and had thoughts of how I could make this thing prettier or how that one might add incredible character to a room. Then I thought to myself, "Hmmm, self, which is the best way to the freeway from HERE?".  Good question self.

Then it happened.  I looked ahead to somewhat familiar streets and the city whispered to me…'wait, turn at the next one, just like always. . .you won't regret it.'  It was the first time I've been going about this city that I've just felt like I've known where to go.  Usually I am really trying to work it out or I'm just hoping for the best, but I just knew it would be OK.  It was.  The commute ended up being a little shorter, the scenery different than that of every other day.

I do have a photo from the car, it is through my windscreen whilst I was still in the city.  I do think it is sort of fun that this flying saucer of the Space Needle seems to just pop up at times  :)
